1. Buy Tickets in Advance
This is a super handy tip for your trip to Epic Universe that’ll help you save both time and money!
Trust me, it’s a smart move to snag your tickets ahead of time. This way, you can skip the lines when you get there.
Just be sure to get your tickets from Universal’s website or from a reputable source such as Groupon.
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Mornings at Universal can be hectic, and the ticket line tends to be really long. So, make sure you grab your tickets early so you can breeze right through the gates!
2. Pick the Best Day to Go
When it comes to your experience at Universal Orlando, things like holiday crowds, weather, and a few other factors play a big role.
These elements can seriously affect how long you’ll spend waiting in line for those must-ride attractions.
There are several websites you can use to find out which days are the most ideal for visiting.
But I totally get it—sometimes you and your crew can only make it on specific days. So, I’m going to list my recommendations for you below.
What are the best times to visit Epic Universe?
- Mid-January
- Early February
- Beginning of April
- Early May
- Late August
- Mid-September
- Early November

3. Start as Early as You Can
If you want to make the most of your day at the park, try to arrive early—like at least thirty minutes BEFORE it opens. Don’t forget to factor in some time for parking!
Getting there sooner means you’ll be nearer to the front of the admissions line, which helps you get in faster and beat the crowds.
And from the moment I walked through those gates, I was overcome with excitement and nervousness because I wanted to make sure that I was able to see and do as much as I could on my trip.
I even go a bit teary-eyed walking through each world as the majesty of each land took over my senses and turned me back into the little theme park girl.
So I suggest that you go at park opening as it’s a great time to hit some of the popular rides before they get too busy.
And like I said before: the thirty minutes doesn’t include parking time (which is quite a walk to the front gate), so make sure to leave yourself enough time to find a spot and walk to the entrance!
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Don’t forget to snap a photo of where you parked as the parking lot is on one level outdoors and you can easily forget where you’ve parked after a long day in the Epic.
4. Get the Universal Express Pass
Getting the Epic Universe Express Pass can save you lots of time and allow you to make the most out of your day and it’s similar to Disney’s Lightning Lane Premier.
Are Epic Universe Express Passes Worth It?
Well, it really depends on your situation! If you’re planning to spend just one day at the park and you happen to visit on a busy day, I’d say go for the Express Pass.
On those packed days, it can be super tough to experience all the attractions the park has to offer.
And let’s be honest, if it’s one of those hot and sticky days, it can make the whole experience even more challenging.
I totally get that the prices might stretch your budget as they start at $129.99, but if you can manage to add a little more, grabbing an Express Pass could be a game changer.
However, if thrill rides aren’t really your thing and you’d rather take things at a leisurely pace, then you might want to skip the Express Pass.
In that case, why not use that money for some delicious theme park food and fun merchandise instead?
Express Pass Rides and Attractions at Epic Universe:
- Constellation Carousel
- Curse of the Werewolf
- Fyre Drill

HIPSTER POWER TIP: Just know that the availability of these rides are subject to change at any time.
5. Know What to Pack
It’s important to know what to pack and what to wear for your trip so that you can maneuver the park easily.
Below are some of the things I MUST HAVE for my days at the park:
- Comfy Shoes (wear your best shoes as you’ll being doing A LOT of walking and going up A LOT of stairs…I got over 15k steps on my visit)
- Small Bag
- Breathable Clothing
- Sun Protection
- Wizard’s robe and wand
- Hand sanitizer
- Phone Charger
- Portable Fan
- Your own ThemeParkHipster shirt
I also want to emphasize packing light if you can. If you can do it, try to bring a bag no bigger than a three-prong fanny pack as these are allowed on every ride (except for Stardust Racers where you have to go through a medal detector).
- You’re going to love this Harry Potter fanny pack bag featuring the Hufflepuff House Shield!
- Stylish and sleek cross fanny pack is made from premium canvas.
- It measures 11.0 x 6.5 x 4.0 Inches and features space to carry all your favorite things including phone, wallet, keys, etc.
- The gorgeous artwork is applied using the latest printing technology so it will hold up well over time.
- This product is made by Buckle-Down and is Officially Licensed by Warner Bros.
Using the Lockers at Epic Universe
However, if you have a larger family that requires a bigger bag, then you’ll be happy to know that there are lockers on certain attractions that are free for up to a certain time period. The time period will depend on the wait time of the attraction.
There’s a new technology where you will need to press your finger on the screen for your locker along with a photo and you’ll be able to retrieve your items quickly.
It’s such an efficient way to store your bags in the park.

6. Use the Single Rider Line
At times, the best part of a park visit is enjoying a ride with your crew, but if you’re cool with going solo, some rides have a Single Rider Line that’s perfect for us who travel alone.
Universal Orlando Team Members will grab folks from this line to fill those one or two seats that larger groups leave behind.
Plus, the Single Rider Line usually moves quickly (sometimes faster than the Express Pass Line on certain rides), so you can zip in and out faster!
Just know that if you’re going through this line with a friend, you guys will be split up.
Single Rider Lines at Epic Universe:
- Stardust Racers (a decent Single Rider Line…but I can see it moving slowly on super busy days)
- Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry (pretty good Single Rider Line)
- Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge (great Single Rider Line…moved quickly on my visit)
- Mine-Cart Madness (not a good Single Rider Line…moves super slow)
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders (a decent Single Rider Line)
- Monsters Unchained (pretty good Single Rider Line)
- Curse of the Werewolf (pretty good Single Rider Line…no wait on my visit)
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Single Rider Line options change frequently and may not be available during your visit.
7. Avoid the Lunch Rush
If you’re planning to grab a bite in the park (whether it’s one meal or all three), try eating at off-peak times. It can really save you some hassle.
When you eat during those weird hours, you’ll dodge those long lines for food. Seriously, the lunch rush at the popular spots can feel just as brutal as waiting for rides!
Plus, eating at strange times means you can hit up the rides when everyone else is busy getting their meals, and the wait times will be way shorter.

Just think about it: while everyone’s in line for food, you’ll be enjoying the attractions. Trust me, you’ll thank me later for this tip for Epic Universe!
8. Book The VIP Experience
If you’re looking to make the most of your time and you’ve got the budget for it, you should definitely think about splurging on the VIP experience.
You’ll have a personal tour guide who’ll show you around the park, including some cool spots that regular visitors can’t access.
Plus, they’ll whisk you right to the front of the lines and secure you the best seats at shows.
Seriously, it’s one of the absolute best things to do at Universal Epic Universe! You won’t regret it! 🙂
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Annual Passholders can get a 10% discount on Epic Universe VIP tours by calling (866) 346-9350.
9. Take a Quick Break to Get More Done
If you’re looking to tackle a theme park in just one day or want to squeeze every bit of fun out of your visit, getting there before the gates open and sticking around until they close is a smart move.
But here’s a little tip: it might be worth it to take a breather in the middle of the day.
If your hotel is close by, why not head back for a quick nap or just a little downtime during those hot hours?
This way, you can bypass the busiest crowds and recharge, which means you’ll be ready to make the most of your evening in the park (which is majestic at night)!
10. Get the App, Use the App
Universal Orlando has an awesome app you can download. It works all over the park, especially since they offer free Wi-Fi.
This app is super handy! You can plan your own itinerary, keep an eye on the latest wait times, check out the park map, get your food through the Mobile Ordering system, and a whole lot more.
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Be sure to download this app BEFORE your trip! It will help you get comfortable with everything so that you’re not stressed about the many features on the app when using it on your visit. You’ll also want to add your credit information in the wallet section to help speed the process up when mobile ordering your food.
11. Use The Child Swap Program
If you’re bringing the kids along, don’t forget to check out the Child Swap Program that the park has. It’s super handy!
How does the Child Swap Program work at Epic Universe?
Basically, one parent or adult can hang out with the child who’s too short or can’t ride for any reason while the other adults enjoy the ride.
Then, you can swap out without having to wait in line all over again.
There’s tons of fun stuff to do with your little ones, but let’s be real—sometimes you just want to hit those rides even if your kids can’t join you.
Your friends who are too scared to ride an intense attraction can walk the queue line with you and can also wait in the Family Room for you while you experience the ride on certain attractions.
Epic Universe Child Swap Attractions:
- Dragon Racer’s Rally
- Fyre Drill
- Hiccups’s Wing Gliders
- Constellation Carousel
- Stardust Racers
- Curse of the Werewolf
- Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment
- Mario Kart: Bower’s Challenge
- Mine-Cart Madness
- Yoshi’s Adventure
- Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry

12. Visit Each World in Epic Universe
I’m now going to go through each land (also know as “worlds”) in the park, what you can expect and a tip to help you maximize your time.
Celestial Park
Celestial Park really acts as the heart of this destination, featuring a beautiful, green garden and stunning fountains that light up at night, creating a lively and magical atmosphere.
When you walk in for the first time, you’ll be so shocked by the majesty that welcomes you into this universe.
This land also features a thrilling dueling roller coaster, the Stardust Racers, that reaches speeds up to 62 miles per hour!
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Make sure to set aside some time to check out the variety of dining choices and fun activities in this area. It’s a place designed for everyone to connect with nature and to get centered.
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
When you walk through the portal of this area you will be blown away by this incredible land!
As I entered, I could not believe the large scale that this world displayed and as I looked across the view I saw a village filled with tough Vikings, playful dragons, a thrilling roller coaster and one of the best theme park live shows in the world.

HIPSTER POWER TIP: If you’ve got little ones, you’ll love the Viking Training Camp. It’s got a super fun play area filled with slides, bridges, and even a ‘Viking agility course’ to keep those tiny adventurers entertained!
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
Here you’ll step into the enchanting Wizarding World where you can explore vibrant settings inspired by the magical Paris of the 1920s and the bustling London of the 1990s.
You’ll also enjoy the interactive wand experiences and delightfully themed dining that will make you feel like you’re part of the magic!
When I walked into this world a tear officially left my eye. I had NO WORDS…none!
I could not believe the little details and amazing architecture that went into this Potter-inspired area.
Everything here was built to perfection but the Battle at the Ministry ride and the feeling I felt walking through it was something that will be with me forever. PURE MAGIC!

HIPSTER POWER TIP: Be sure to check out the “Battle at the Ministry” ride when you first arrive! It’s where super cool animatronics and digital effects make the exciting pursuit of Dolores Umbridge feel real. And don’t miss the Le Cirque Arcanus show!
Dark Universe
If you’re a Universal Classic Monsters fan or a fan of Halloween Horror Nights, then you’re going to fall in love with Dark Universe.
In this eerie place, you’ll explore the mysterious village of Darkmoor, where iconic Universal Monster legends like Dracula and Frankenstein’s Monster roam freely.

Plus, there are some thrilling attractions, like the Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment ride and Curse of the Werewolf.
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Don’t skip the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience! Here, you can become your favorite monster with awesome makeup. Also, make sure to hop on the Monsters Unchained ride early in the day—it’s famous for having a lot of delays later on due to some tech issues.
Super Nintendo World
In this exciting adventure, you’ll dive right into the Mushroom Kingdom and Donkey Kong Country!
Get ready for some fun as you collect digital coins and toss shells on the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge ride.
This area is very colorful which makes for great photos to post on your social media page.
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Make your visit even more fun by grabbing a Power-Up Band! It lets you join in on interactive activities and keeps track of all your adventures around Super Nintendo World.
13. Save Shopping for the Middle of Your Visit
If you’re planning to pick up some souvenirs, wait until the early afternoon/late afternoon of your trip to grab them.
That way, you won’t have to lug them around all day, and you can save some time by popping into the shops as they start to clear out before the evening rush.
Just be sure to take a moment to visit those favorite stores of yours and snag all the items you’ve been eyeing throughout your visit.
14. Create Your Own Foodie Tour
You’re definitely going to want to dive into the amazing food at Epic Universe!

With so many options, why not grab one (or two) of everything on the menu? It’s a fun way to share with your group and really experience it all.
Sure, the “Blood Orange” Chicken Sandwich from Dark Universe looks tempting, but if you finish that whole thing, you’ll miss out on tasting all the other mouthwatering dishes.
Think of it as your own personal foodie adventure throughout the park!
The Best Things to Eat at Epic Universe:
- “Blood Orange” Chicken Sandwich (Location: Das Stakehaus in Dark Universe)
- Butterbeer Crepe (Location: Café L’air De La Sirène in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic)
- Mac & Cheese Cones (Location: Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk)
- Bowser’s Fireball Challenge (Location: Toadstool Cafe in Super Nintendo World)
- Two Meats Platter with Spit Roasted Citrus Herb Chicken and Smoked St. Louis Ribs (Location: The Oak & Star Tavern in Celestial Park)
HIPSTER POWER TIP: For the sit down restaurants like Atlantic and The Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant, I highly suggest that you make a reservation as it can be hard to get a walk-in seat.
15. Get Photos NOT Signatures
You’ll notice more characters walking around in the various Worlds of Epic Universe. They blend into the area themeing and are quite interactive.
Plus, I think that photos are better souvenirs than signatures. Just don’t forget to print them out from your phone when you get back home!
16. Know How to Conquer Epic Universe in One-Day
You might be wondering if you can actually do it all in just one day, and the answer is yes, sort of!
While you probably won’t be able to taste every dish, catch every show, or hop on every ride, you can definitely experience a lot of what Epic Universe has to offer in a single day.
If you’re aiming to make the most of your day, it’s a good idea to stick to the tips I mentioned earlier and create a game plan ahead of time.
