Chocolatetown
We begin our tour of Hersheypark in the most recent section of the park and its entrance.
The park’s entrance was revamped in recent years in a multi-million-dollar expansion, with its two attractions having nods to its past and present.
Best Rides in Hersheypark (Chocolatetown)
We start with its past, The Carrousel, which is one of the oldest in the country!
1. The Carrousel
It was built in 1919 and operated in Maryland and New York as PTC #47 before setting down roots at Hersheypark.
The Carrousel is currently 105 years old, boasting a 153 Wurlitzer military band organ that features 164 pipes, 54 keys and 16 bells to curate the carousel’s music.
Also, the 66 original hand carved horses, chariots and ride decorations were restored in 1978 following the organ’s original revamp in 1975.
The organ was revamped again in 2019 and today the Carrousel is the second attraction you see, across from the latest addition, Candymonium.
2. Candymonium
The Candymonium roller coaster is the tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster, and hypercoaster, currently at the park.
It’s also a creation of the B&M coaster manufacturer.
Candymonium is dubbed the “World’s Sweetest Coaster” and themed to various Hershey candies including Hershey Kisses, Reese Peanut Butter Cups and Twizzlers.
Since its debut, it has been extremely popular amongst visitors and coaster enthusiasts, while making Golden Ticket Awards’ Top Steel Coasters list consecutively.

Founders’ Way
This is the second themed area to the park and originally spanned to the front of the park prior to the creation of chocolatetown.
Near the tram circle at the main gate, it included the now defunct Tudor Square and Rhineland areas.
The two areas were merged into Founders’ Circle in 2013. The main part features a fountain with a statue of Milton Hershey, and the former location of the Carrousel.
Best Rides in Hersheypark (Founder’s Way)
One of the popular attractions in Founders’ Way is Skyview, especially perfect for riding during Christmas Candylane.
1. Skyview
The gondola ride, built in 1966, provides a round trip scenic journey through the center of the park, giving amazing views of spring creek and the hollow section of the park.
2. Reese’s Cupfusion
Meanwhile, on the ground, Reese’s Cupfusion, is a shooting interactive dark ride that debuted in May 2019. Riders take on the role of security agents at Reese’s Central.
Led by Commander Cup, the riders keep the factory running by protecting the Reese’s Crystal Cup.
The cup collects people’s love of chocolate and peanut butter known as Reese’s Spirit and creates energy that powers the factory.
Mint the Merciless and his league of misfit candy try to steal it so they can use it for their own evil purposes.
The riders’ job is to fight back and to ensure that the world is never deprived of Reese’s. It is extremely popular with families!
The Hollow
Moving on to the Hollow, it was originally named “Comet Hollow” after the park’s oldest coaster in operation.
It is also the oldest section of the park and one of the originals.
The Hollow has stood the test of time with many attractions that have come and gone, surviving Hurricane Agnes and flooding.
Best Rides in Hersheypark (The Hollow)
Today, now just “The Hollow”, it is home to three roller coasters and various family friendly attractions.
In fact, some people count Great Bear as part of this section as most of the coaster’s track goes over the hollow.
1. Comet
Starting with Comet, this wooden coaster debuted in 1946 and is an ACE landmark.
It features a double back and out layout track and can hit 50 miles per hour (MPH).
The Comet ride at Hersheypark consistently has long wait times due to its history and tends to be the first “big kid” coaster children ride.
2. sooperdooperLooper
Towards the back of the Hollow is sooperdooperLooper, a steel looping coaster that opened in 1977.
Upon its opening, attendance jumped from 1.4 million to 1.7 million, ranking the park in the top three parks in the country!
Mainly due to the fact that it was the first inverting coaster at the park.
This Hersheypark roller coaster is still popular to this day, with merchandise dedicated to it still selling well.
Some of the best Hersheypark merchandise is based on this attraction such as a Barbie doll set where she wears a “sooperdooperlooper” tee.
3. Skyrush
Finally, we come to the latest addition to the hollow and easily one of the must do coasters of Hersheypark, Skyrush.
The Skyrush ride at Hersheypark opened in 2012 as the park’s 3rd coaster created by Intamin and the 12th overall.
It was the first coaster to open since Fahrenheit in 2008 and was originally delayed due to weather and foundation issues.
The wing roller coaster features a twister layout, hits 75 MPH with a top height of 200 feet and take it from me, you get up there in about 9 seconds.
On top of this, you hit 5 G forces while on the Skyrush roller coaster at Hersheypark!
With the exception of 2016 and 2020, it has hit the top 50 of Golden Ticket Awards’ Top Steel Coasters list every time and winning Best New Ride in its debut year.

Kissing Tower Hill
Heading up the slightly steep hill, we reach the top of Kissing Tower Hill, originally Minetown up until the 2014 season.
Otherwise, it has been officially open since 1990.
Best Rides in Hersheypark (Kissing Tower Hill)
A few of the original family-friendly rides have been moved around to other areas of the park like Red Baron.
1. Kissing Tower
This classic attraction gives you a 360° view of Hersheypark! It’s one of the best rides at the park for relaxing and escaping the crowds.
2. Great Bear
But the big draws, besides the Kissing Tower, starts with Great Bear. I am slightly biased but it certainly is one of the best rides in the park.
Opening in 1998, it was the first looping, inverted coaster in the state, as well as the sixth coaster and fourth steel coaster in the park.
The Great Bear roller coaster drop is at a height of 124 feet, features 4 inversions and hits top speed of 58 MPH.
It was so popular when it opened that Hersheypark had to raise admission prices and due to its construction. But as of today, visitors would probably agree that it was worth it.
3. Coal Cracker
Another staple is Coal Cracker, the park’s oldest water ride. It is a unique 1973 log flume ride due to its layout thanks to the terrain on which it was built.
The Coal Cracker is the must-do water ride for you if you don’t plan on going to the Boardwalk, which we will touch on later.
Pioneer Frontier
This next section of the park may be one of the most popular in the park, mainly because of all the amazing coasters and attractions it encompasses.
Best Rides in Hersheypark (Pioneer Frontier)
The Pioneer Frontier is a southwestern themed area that has four of the park’s roller coasters.
1. Fahrenheit
Starting with Fahrenheit, it debuted in 2008 and has six inversions and was briefly the steepest roller coaster in the world at 97 degrees, until Steel Hawg opened weeks later.
The Fahrenheit ride at Hersheypark also one of the few roller coasters in the world to have a Norwegian loop.
It features a 121-foot vertical lift, airtime hills and high-speed banked curves, cobra roll, including a 97-degree drop on the first hill.
In addition, the 107-foot-tall Norwegian loop, which has two inversions, an Immelmann Inversion followed by a dive loop, rather than the single inversion found on standard vertical loop makes it a standout.
Fahrenheit’s track is about 2,700 feet long, and the ride has a capacity of 850 riders per hour.
Riders travel at a maximum speed of 58 miles per hour on Fahrenheit, traversing the course in 85 seconds.
Each train consists of three cars, which each seat four people, which does cause extremely long wait times during the summer season.
2. Jolly Rancher Remix
The two additions from 2022 were Jolly Rancher Remix and Mix’d Flavored.
Jolly Rancher Remix was originally Sidewinder, which opened in 1991.
This Hersheypark ride is a boomerang roller coaster themed to the candy. It reaches 57 MPH and boasts 3 inversions.
It also has the unique scent tunnel where you can smell a jolly rancher flavor as you speed through!
3. Mix’d Flavored By Jolly Rancher
The Mixd Flavored by Jolly Rancher is a brand-new family ride that is special!
It is a 360 degree ferris wheel that lifts and drops, giving riders amazing park views!
4. Storm Runner
Lastly, there is Storm Runner, and this coaster is everything you could want in a ride. It opened in 2004, and i had the pleasure of being there during its opening season.
The Storm Runner roller coaster reaches a height of 169 feet and catapults riders from 0 to 72 MPH in two seconds.
It also features a top hat element, three inversions, a dual loading station and a magnetic braking system. It was the first accelerator coaster to have inversions as well.
The Boardwalk
This next section is special as it was created in 2007 to mark the 100th anniversary of the entire park.
The Boardwalk originally had 5 water attractions and was expanded in 2009 and two new attractions were added. It would eventually expand again in 2013 and 2018 to add more.
Best Rides in Hersheypark (The Boardwalk)
It is an extremely favorable area during the summer, with visitors rope dropping the section to get first access to rides like Breakers Edge Water Coaster, The Shore and Intercoastal Waterway.
Breakers Edge is a water slide/ coaster hybrid and usually has extremely long wait times.
The Shore is a 378,000 gallon wave pool with zero-depth entry and a maximum depth of 6 feet.
There’s also the Intercoastal Waterway, a 1,360 ft. long lazy river attraction with a uniform water depth of 21⁄2 ft.
This expansion replaced the iconic Canyon River Rapids ride.

Midway America
As we come to the very back of the park, we come to a homage of the classic midway fairs of the past.
Best Rides in Hersheypark (Midway America)
This section opened in 1996 and will be home to the AMAZING Wildcat’s Revenge.
1. Lightning Racer
But while we wait on that, you can experience Lightning Racer, a classic wooden dueling coaster, which debuted in 2000.
2. Laff Trakk
Following up we have another popular family coaster, Laff Trakk. It tends to average hour wait times due to its ride capacity.
The ride pays homage to the fun houses that resided in the park between 1930 and 172.
It is a “glowing” indoor spinning steel coaster and opened in 2015.
3. Ferris Wheel
And to round out our list today, i would be remiss to not mention the Ferris Wheel, the icon of Hersheypark.
