#9 The Barnstormer (Magic Kingdom)
Located in Fantasyland, The Barnstormer is a kiddy-friendly coaster starring everyone’s favorite goof, The Great Goofini!
Here, you’re invited to board a homemade stunt plane and zip through through one busy barnyard. What this ride lacks in thrills, it makes up for in a kitsch and character.
This is the perfect introduction to coasters for your little one. In fact, the ride is so quick – even if they decide they don’t like coasters mid-flight, it’s over before you know it.
If you are traveling solo, I feel comfortable suggesting that you skip this one.

#8 Slinky Dog Dash (Hollywood Studios)
Number #8 allows us the graduate up from kiddy-friendly to family-friendly with Slink Dog Dash!
Before I even get into the ride itself… just take a look at the smile on that cute little pup… who could resist?!
Now, what separates this coaster from the rest is Slinky Dog’s springy coils! You see, they stretch and retract with each and every bend, twist, and turn.
Though there are no major drops to be found on this coaster, I find this to be rather refreshing change of pace!
Oh, and if you do embark on this adventure, Wheezy will serenade you on your journey back!

#7 Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Magic Kingdom)
Brace yourself, because you’re about to travel through an age-old mountain inside an old rustic mine train on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
And if you happen to feel some sudden swinging or hear any unexpected creaking – don’t worry – that’s just your ride vehicle!!!
All kidding aside, this is one of the smoothest and dare we say, Disneyfied attractions in all of Walt Disney World!
One of the most delightful aspects of this ride is that it contains show-scenes throughout, including one extra sparkly backdrop, featuring the Seven Dwarfs!
One word of caution, don’t get too comfortable! Just because this ride feels safe, doesn’t mean there isn’t an evil witch lurking in the shadows!
In the end, though it may not be the classic dark ride that some may prefer – it is a nice modern-day take on a classic.

First, you enter a Hollywood music studio where Aerosmith is currently cutting a new album.

#5 Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom)
Uh-oh… I can hear the shocked reactions from here! That’s right, everyone’s #1 is my #5. Space Mountain!
This pitch-black rocket ride into outer space is a Disney favorite, from its futuristic soundtrack streaking orbs of light.
And while I agree, it is a classic in every sense of the word… nostalgia alone couldn’t carry this ride to the #1 spot.
In comparison to the innovate advancements made to other attractions since the last update, Space Mountain is beginning to show its age.
The track is ricketier than ever, the ride vehicle feels cramped, and it is just begging for some form of pre-show refresh.
Now, I know this is certainly not everyone’s take on it.
And who knows, with the addition of the Tron coaster, it can once again be a welcomed touch of yesteryear within Tomorrowland. But until then…

- Height Restriction: 44 inches
- Space Mountain Height: 65 feet
- Max Speed: 28 miles per hour
- Inversions: 0
- Manufacturer: Arrow Development
- Pros: Theme fits Tomorrowland perfectly, dark coaster, classic ride!
- Cons: Tight seating, rickety track, needs update.
#4 TRON Lightcycle/Run (Magic Kingdom)
This ride is a twin of the Tron Lightcycle coaster that’s currently open at Shanghai Disneyland.
TRON is located right next to Space Mountain in Tomorrowland and can be seen from the Peoplemover and the Tomorrowland Speedway.
This attraction is made as a motorbike styled vehicle, enhancing the individual riders experience.
To match the TRON theme, the motorbikes are designed to look similar to the vehicles from the film. However, the ride doesn’t really have a storyline.

#3 BIG Thunder Mountain Railroad (Magic Kingdom)
Fast, bumpy, and full of themeing, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is often mistaken for an Opening Day attraction due to it’s natural fit within the landscape of Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom.
Designed by Disney Legend, Tony Baxter, this is one of the first roller coasters to feature a steep backstory which helps to fill and forward the plot.
Only Disney could create a pre-show pitch that is as rip-roaring as the ride itself.
“Legend has it that soon after gold was first discovered here in the 1850s, eerie things began to happen. Trains would take off and race through tunnels—by themselves.”
The attraction takes place inside an abandoned mine shaft. As you board your train and enter the cursed cavern, the engine becomes possessed and races along an unstable track.
Hold on for dear life, because you’re about to come face-to-face with exploding dynamite and falling boulders as you plunge through the cannons in an effort to return home safe and sound.
Big Thunder Mountain Disney Roller Coaster Stats:
- Height Restriction: 40 inches
- Big Thunder Mountain Height: 104 feet
- Max Speed: 35 miles per hour
- Inversions: 0
- Manufacturer: Arrow Development
- Pros: Beautiful icon, feels authentic, offers different visual experience day vs. night
- Cons: We wish every car received the same experience as the front row.
#2 Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom)
Bedecked with detail and overflowing with imagination, Expedition Everest is my #2!
Traverse through a Tibetan village on your way to the mountain and board a train to the tippy top! Once you hit the peak, your train picks up speed, bucking and barreling into the darkness.
Before you know it, you’re faced with a broken and mangled track which leaves you with nowhere to go but…. backwards.
Oh… and be sure to keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times because rumor has it that a massive and maniacal Yeti is hiding within.
Leave it to Joe Rohde to take the coaster experience to new heights! Making it one of the BEST roller coasters at Disney World.
