1. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
I am starting off with probably one of the most beautiful and underrated Disney World resort hotels on the property, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
The resort is one of the furthest on the outside of the property, close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom park.
For couples, this may actually be perfect, especially if you want space away from the hustle and bustle of the parks.
I love how natural the setting is, making it one of the most romantic settings and one of the best resorts for couples at Walt Disney World.
The theme and craftsmanship put into the gorgeously impressive resort always is astounding to me.
One of the biggest draws of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is being able to see all the wildlife in their natural habitat right outside your room and the public areas of the resort.
You feel like you are out in the African Savanna having all the animals in such close proximity.
You truly are immersed in the theme of the African Savanna and being one with nature.
Brief History
Going back briefly to its origins, this resort hotel was designed by the same architect as Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
You can even see the similarities in the grandeur of the layout, especially in the lobby area.
Peter Dominick of Urban Design Group had always had a great relationship when it comes to working with Disney Parks and Resorts and he helped design many of the hotels we have come to love.
When did Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge open?
The deluxe resort opened in April 16, 2001 to the public.
On October 11, 2006, Disney announced that Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge would be the newest Disney Vacation Club resort hotel, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas.
Then the Kidani Village was later built on the westside of the original lodge and added more than 300 villas.
Room Options at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
When it comes to room types, you’ll find many options, especially for Kidani Village.
You can choose from quite a few rooms that will give you incredible views, it is one of the top reasons why I think it is one of the best resorts for couples at Walt Disney World.
Options include the Resort, Savanna, and Water view, with the Savanna view being the most popular.
There are also 1 and 2-bedroom suites with club-level access to the resort, savanna, and water for couples looking for a luxurious stay.
These views have 1-3 bedroom options as well but for couples, I personally wouldn’t recommend the 2-3 bedroom options.
Rooms come with:
- room service
- irons and ironing boards
- hairdryers
- make-up mirrors
- in-room coffee makers
- mini-fridges are also available
Cost to stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort
It should be noted that if you want a king bedroom option, they are limited so book AS EARLY as possible. Pricing starts around $400 and up.

Dining Options at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Along with the rooms with gorgeous views, you can enjoy a scrumptious meal at one of the highly-rated restaurants at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
All the dining options here are worth trying!
Jiko- The Cooking Place is a blend of traditional African, Indian, and Mediterranean cuisines for a vibrant tasting experience.
Steak, chicken, seafood, and plant-based dishes are infused with a uniquely bold blend of tantalizing flavors and fragrant spices.
You will be treated to watching the talented chefs create your meals along with jaw-dropping views of the African savanna and wildlife.
My personal favorite at the resort, Boma- Flavors of Africa, is a breakfast and dinner all-you-can-eat buffet that is bursting at the seam with delectable delights.
Lastly, there’s Sanaa, another lovely spot that I’ve dined at and absolutely loved.
Not a single dining option here misses at this resort. It’s similar to Jiko but a bit more cozy with savanna views.
Listen to me closely. Get the bread service!
I also recommend making time to visit Victoria Falls Lounge to relax with a nice drink then head to The Mara to try the famous Zebra Dome dessert. They are absolutely heavenly and melt-in-your-mouth!
Romantic Things to Do at This Resort for Couples at Walt Disney World
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge also offers a variety of tours and experiences for an extra charge to help add a bit of romance and adventure to your couple’s vacation at Disney.
Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom nearby gives you a private expedition of their savanna and wildlife.
If you aren’t feeling too adventurous, enjoy a relaxing meal on the savanna at Animal Kingdom with the Savor the Savanna experience.
Other up close and personal experiences with the wildlife include a meet and greet with the elephants and rhinos.
If you want to just stay at your resort and you are willing to wait until the sun goes down, try Starlight Safari where you explore the savanna in the evening with night vision goggles.
In the end, if you are looking to bask in the beauty of nature, while still enjoying the company of your partner, this is a great choice and one best resorts for couples at Disney World!

2. Disney’s Yacht Club
If you’re looking to feel bougie and stay within walking distance of EPCOT, then this next resort is a great choice for you!
The Yacht Club is right next door to its sister resort, Beach Club. However, Beach Club tends to have more families so I would personally have couples avoid this one.
Brief History
This New England nautical-themed resort at first opened on November 5, 1990, and it is one of the several Epcot Area Resorts.
For a better perspective, I wasn’t alive yet haha! It was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
This may sound a bit odd but the smell of the lobby is what brings me back every time.
Room Options at Disney’s Yacht Club
Speaking of rooms, you’ll be treated to standard room options. But if staying here, I would try to splurge for the water or resort view options, which can have club-level access if you so choose.
It is a great place to treat yourself to a bit of romance with the enchanted views of Crescent Lake and the fragrant and vibrant gardens of the lovely nautical-themed resort.
These gorgeous views alone without a doubt put Disney’s Yacht Club on the list of best resorts for couples at Walt Disney World.
You can also enjoy a romantic day at their wonderful pools and even rent a cabana for extra privacy.
How much does it cost to stay at Disney Yacht Club Resort?
The accommodations vary and can be found here starting at $484 per night.

Dining Options at Disney’s Yacht Club
Let’s talk about some of the amazing dining options at Disney’s Yacht Club, starting with my absolute favorite, Ale, and Compass.
Ale and Compass has a restaurant and lounge and I absolutely LOVE the New England/American style food here.
And as a Marylander, I can confirm this is the ONLY place where I will eat a crab cake on property.
If you want to get extra fancy and dress up, Yachtsman Steakhouse is a great place to dine after a long day.
It continues on the nautical theming as you dine on phenomenal steaks, seafood and so much more!
Martha’s Vineyard is a great lounge to just relax and spend time together with a glass of wine.
If you have a sweet tooth, I CANNOT recommend Beaches and Cream Soda Shop more.
Here you can indulge in an old 1950s vibe while diving into a scrumptious sundae.
You might even catch fellow patrons trying their hand at the Kitchen Sink challenge.

Romantic Things to Do at This Resort for Couples at Walt Disney World
Head out for a game of pickle-ball or volleyball, rent a boat, and take a turn around Crescent Lake or go fishing! It fits with the nautical theme, which I’m obsessed with.
Boat transportation from both of the resorts runs to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as the BoardWalk and the Swan & Dolphin resorts.
The resort is about five minutes walking distance from Epcot and roughly 15 minutes walking distance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Plus, you have access to the back entrance to Epcot through the World Showcase between the France and the UK Pavilions, which is my personal favorite way to enter EPCOT.
You are also within walking distance to Disney Skyliner, another great perk and why it’s one of the best resorts for couples at Walt Disney World!
Personally, I find this resort far more quiet and classy, which I believe is great for couples, especially if you shoot for a club-level room.
This resort in particular is on everyone’s bucket list and maybe it’s because the club level is excellent!

3. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort
Diving back into nature, imagine surrounding yourself within a different kind of environment.
Brief History
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge resort made its debut on May 28, 1994, with the theme of it coming from the atmosphere of the national parks across western United States.
This was another Disney resort designed by Peter Dominick.
What to Expect at Wilderness Lodge Resort
The main building is modeled after the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. With a replica geyser and hot springs it is reminiscent of those at Yellowstone.
When you walk in you’ll be overwhelmed as the resort has eight floors of lodgepole pine imported from Oregon, 55-foot authentic totem poles, and an 82-foot fireplace!
All of this helps the resort represent the vibrant rocks from the Grand Canyon.
These displays also encapsulate Northwestern Native American artifacts, myths, legends, and stories and ultimately its legacy.
Wilderness Lodge guests have access to amenities including restaurants, a fitness center, themed pools, jacuzzi hot tubs, and educational activities for adults and children.
The resort is close to Magic Kingdom but the only one not on the monorail loop line.
Despite being so close to Magic Kingdom, you still can manage to get a sense of seclusion within a gorgeous natural setting and even get some spectacular views of the park with the right room type!
Room Options at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
As with other deluxe resorts that have been mentioned so far on this list, you can anticipate a wide array of options, some you can get club-level access too.
There are Disney Vacation club rooms that boast 1-3 level bedrooms villas and suites that you might consider as well.
But you have several resort view options, as well as a special fireworks view option, water view, deluxe rooms, and deluxe studios.
No matter what you choose, you will be very comfortable with the incredibly cool themed rooms!
How much does it cost to stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge?
Pricing starts at $409 a night depending on the room type, but you will find the nature and theme park views in particular extremely relaxing.

Dining Options at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
If you are into character experiences like myself, then you will be interested in the Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White.
I had this experience when it first opened and fell in love with it. I consider it amongst the best on the property!
Enjoy a themed dinner where you will have opportunities to meet some of Snow’s friends and her stepmother, along with the original princess herself. The food is so good too and the presentation of the dishes is so fun!
Another wild west-themed option is Whispering Canyon.
It’s especially great if you just want some good ol’ American-style food in an all-you-can-eat setting. Fair warning if you ask for ketchup though.
Romantic Things to Do at This Resort for Couples at Walt Disney World
There is a decent amount of quietly themed lounges like Territory Lounge that I particularly enjoy.
Bearing in mind that you can only take the boat really to Magic Kingdom and buses to anywhere else on the property from this resort.
If you want seclusion and peace, this is a great option for couples.
While you’re there, enjoy the pools, and some fishing and take a romantic horseback ride through Fort Wilderness nearby, or end your night by the warm and inviting campfire.

4. Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort
This next one was actually one of my bucket list stays for me, Disney’s Boardwalk Resort.
This is great for couples who want a period piece theme with décor inspired by the seaside districts of the Northeastern United States during the 20th century.
Essentially you are stepping onto the Atlantic City boardwalk during this time period and its just swell!
Brief History
Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort opened in July of 1996 with the resort and the villas sharing a main lobby with the rest of the resort.
The Boardwalk Inn, Atlantic Dance Hall, and other buildings on the boardwalk were also designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
Room Options at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort
The Boardwalk Inn rooms offer water and resort views of the gardens, the boardwalk, or Crescent Lake. Club-level options include resort and garden views, 2 bedroom suites, and the Sonora VP suite.
There are plenty of deluxe studios with a garden, pool, boardwalk, or just standard views.
Of course, there are also 1-3 bedroom villas with various view types as well but I would say that the resort or garden views are great options for couples.
How much does it cost to stay at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas?
The accommodations vary and can be found here starting at $500 per night.

Dining Options at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort
When exploring Disney’s Boardwalk that’s attached, you’ll have a huge variety of dining options to choose from!
My personal favorites are Abracadabar, themed to master magicians and illusionists.
A bit small but great seating and drinks to boot and surprisingly very quiet.
Another amazing option is the BelleVue Lounge, where you step into a cozy 1930s-style sitting room where radios play programs from the era. I usually enjoy a drink on the balcony in peace here.
But one of my absolute favorite dining options on the property lays here, Trattoria Al Forno, an Italian style restaurant.
I especially love their breakfast menu but their dinner options are top-notch and perfect for a romantic evening.
Romantic Things to Do at This Resort for Couples at Walt Disney World
Afterward, you could do some dancing at Atlantic Dance Hall or walk over to EPCOT to end your romantic date night at Walt Disney World with a showing of “Luminous- The Symphony of Us” nighttime spectacular.
You are within walking distance of EPCOT and very close to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
It is located directly across from Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club and is of course connected to Disney’s Boardwalk, their version of the 20th-century Atlantic City boardwalk.
The Boardwalk nearby boasts lots of space to relax and find absolute peace and bliss, I cant recommend spending some time over here enough!

5. Disney’s Polynesian Resort
This last resort on this list of the best resorts for couples at Walt Disney World is actually one of the very first original ideas that Walt Disney had for resorts when beginning his plans for Walt Disney World.
Its grand opening day was on October 1, 1971.
Fun Fact: this is also where the Beatles broke up. Not really a fun fact or romantic but just something cool to know haha.
What to Expect at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort calls home on the south end of Seven Seas Lagoon.
The resort is on the Magic Kingdom monorail loop and gives a great view of the Magic Kingdom depending on the room you’re in.
It has a main building named the Great Ceremonial House, which was designed after a Tahitian royal assembly lodge.
No rooms are within this building, rather several lodges – longhouses – and water bungalows houses are spread out amongst the property.
The resort’s design and layout boasts 11 two and three-story longhouses, spread throughout the property.
Brief History
The resort originally opened with 484 guest rooms in 8 longhouses such as:
- Bali Hai
- Bora Bora
- Fiji
- Hawaii
- Maui
- Samoa
- Tahiti
- Tonga
Disney would go on to rename many of them in 1999 and are now named for islands within the Polynesian Isle.
Ten of the eleven longhouses, excluding Fiji, were renamed as:
- Bali Hai became Tonga
- Bora Bora became Niue
- Hawaii became Samoa
- Maui became Rarotonga
- Moorea became Tahiti
- Oahu became Tokelau
- Pago Pago became Rapa Nui
- Samoa became Tuvalu
- Tahiti became Aotearoa
- Tonga became Hawaii
Two of the current longhouses, Hawaii (formerly Tonga) and Tonga (formerly Bali Hai) offer a Concierge Lounge – where refreshments, views, and lounge space are offered exclusively to guests of Hawaii or Tonga.
Room Options at Disney’s Polynesian Resort
Let’s get into the rooms which some have recently been re-themed to fit the hit movie, “Moana.”
It should be noted that a brand new DVC section is currently being built to further expand the resort.
At the Polynesian, you can expect to start off with a theme park, water, or resort view room, some of which can have club-level added on.
For those celebrating wedded bliss, you can have the honeymoon room! But other options include the fantastically luxurious 1 bedroom suite, Ambassador VP, or the granddaddy of them all, the King Kamehameha suite.
If you would prefer to be on the water, the bungalows are a nice option too, and comes with a private plunge pool. You could also simply do a deluxe studio with a standard or lake view.
No matter what option you choose you will have plenty of privacy and romantic island vibes.
How much does it cost to stay at Disney’s Polynesian Resort?
Pricing starts at $590 depending on the room type, but you will find the tropical theme and Magic Kingdom views incredible.

Dining Options Disney’s Polynesian Resort
When it comes to dining options, you have some of the best picks on the property.
To start, there’s the famous Trader Sam’s Bar with amazing themed drinks with presentation. It is small and very popular so be ready to go there at opening for it.
However, there is always the Tiki Terrace that will give you the same drinks, more seating space and live entertainment.
‘Ohana has an amazing character breakfast experience along with buffet dinner, again very popular.
Dole whips are served here as well so you don’t have to leave your resort to have this classic Disney snack.
My personal favorites are Kona Cafe for the deliciously sweet and filling Tonga Toast and Tambu Lounge for some island-inspired drinks.
Romantic Things to Do at This Resort for Couples at Walt Disney World
You will be able to enjoy a great number of sports activities, enjoy the amazing pools, and get a front-row seat at the Electric Water Pageant Show.
A great tip is that if you mind not seeing the projections for the Happily Ever After Fireworks show, you can have a romantic viewing on the beach as they pump the audio through speakers on the beachfront for resort guests.
Or you can do the fireworks cruise for extra romance!
