Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway: Disneyland vs. Disney World
Now that you have a little history on this Disney ride, let’s go through a few slight differences between Disneyland and Disney World’s versions.
We will get into what’s inside in a few!
Disney World’s Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Facade
The Walt Disney World version was created inside a replica of Grauman’s Chinese Theater, which used to be home to and replaced “The Great Movie Ride.”
Where is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney World?
You can find this location in the center of Hollywood Studios right next to ABC Commissary and behind Frozen Ever After Singalong.
Disneyland’s Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Facade
For Disneyland version, a brand new show building was created. This was done by totally gutting the backstage space to achieve this.
The theater is now known as the “El Capitoon Theater,” a fun twist on the “El Capitan Theater” owned by Walt Disney Company and where different movies are shown.
Where is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland?
As you stroll into Toontown, you’ll spot the show building right away. On your right, there’s Roger Rabbit’s Toontown Spin beside the fresh grassy spot that used to be home to the Roger Rabbit Fountain.
Chillin’ between the two buildings at the Gag Factory, with the Town Hall building on the left side on Runaway Railway.

Theme and Story of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland and Disney World
So, here’s the scoop – you are all set to head to the theater for the big debut of the newest Mickey Mouse toon, “The Perfect Picnic.”
Here you’ll fall in love with the catchy tune, “Nothing Can Stop Us Now” sung by Mickey and Minnie during the cartoon.
Disney World’s Queue
This line guides you through the fun lobby of the Chinese Theatre and gives you the vibe of attending a fancy Hollywood movie premiere.
You’ll also spot some cool and hilarious posters featuring Mickey Mouse and all his fun adventures along the line.
Not-to-mention, a surprising pre-show that I don’t want to ruin for you.
Disneyland’s Queue
Strolling through the line, you’ll come across a cool exhibit put together by the Toontown Hysterical Society titled “Mickey Through the Ears” showcasing Mickey’s journey with props, outfits, and posters from the Toontown universe.
My favorite part about the posters are the puns of classic Disney movies like the “Parent Trap” being called “The Chipmunk Trap” and “The Rocketeer” being called “The Mouseketeer.”
Other posters feature every Mickey Mouse short from the beginning to now!
Storyline of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
As I previously mentioned, Mickey and Minnie are on their way to their perfect picnic at the park and run into Goofy who is operating a train that surrounds it.
As he chugs along, a pie suddenly blocks his smokestack, causing the train to speed up, crash into the railroad barn, and create quite the commotion.
We’re asked to hop on the train as Goofy shows us around the park. But oh no! A lever mishap occurs, and now we’re on a wild ride on this runaway train!
Mickey and Minnie sees this and starts their adventure of stopping the runaway train!
Plot of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (SPOILER ALERT)
Going forward, the entirety of the ride’s plot is going to be revealed, so please skip ahead if you want to be surprised.
But keep in mind, if you have ridden the version at Walt Disney World, it’s essentially the same ride.
Desert Scene
When your train sets off on its journey after leaving goofy, you find yourself in a desert setting, with Mickey and Minnie riding horses above, attempting to corral your train cars.
They end up in a mess when Birds swoop in for the attack!
Carnival Scene
You make your way into another room and discover a lively carnival happening. Look out for Donald Duck manning a stand and Mickey and Minnie floating in hot air balloons above the fun!
Just when they’re about to lend a hand, the twister logo on a nearby attraction suddenly springs to life and whisks them, and you, away into a dimly lit room with the twister at the center and Mickey and Minnie twirling around inside.
Tropical Island Scene
Somehow, you and the duo find yourselves on a tropical island where a volcano is erupting!
We all get carried downstream to a waterfall, with us trailing behind into an underwater city.
Underwater Scene
Later on, you’ll spot some sea creatures jamming out some tunes before getting swept away into a sewage system.
City Nighttime Scene
You then find yourselves in a wacky city at night and Pete causing chaos with a jackhammer.
Dance Lesson Scene
Out of the blue, you’re getting ready for a dance class with Daisy Duck that turns into a super fun conga line right outside the studio!
Back Alley and Factory Scene
We conga our way into a back alley and into a factory, which Minnie Mouse warns us not to enter.
We then end up on a conveyor belt and are about to get squished when Mickey and Minnie Mouse discover the switch that halts the belt and rescues us!
Park Scene
The factory then turns into a park where Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto are having a picnic.
After that, we jump back into Goofy’s “guided tour” and see the trio belting out a more laid-back version of the title song.

6 Pro Tips for Riding Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland
Since Walt Disney World’s process is pretty simple, let’s go over a few tips to secure your spot on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland.
1. Confirm Your Spot Early
For Disneyland, you may confirm your party anytime during the early morning of your visit, which I recommend you do to save time on your process with the Lightning Lane Pass if you wait until you get inside of the park.
2. Don’t Worry About Being in the Park for the First Round
You don’t have to be in the park to get a Lightning Lane reservation for this ride, but they do start the process around 7 a.m. PST and they go fast.
The first time I tried, everything was gone within 2 minutes.
3. Refresh Your Screen
The Disneyland App will have a button that you can refresh the screen when it’s time for you to book.
I recommend that you have your screen ready and be on it at least 10 minutes prior and refreshing consistently until (after) 7 a.m.
4. Test Your Service Early
You may ask if you should be on WiFi or on your cell service when getting a boarding group for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland.
This is dependent on the speeds of both for you. Try testing beforehand on the app to see which works best.
5. Try Again at 12 PM
Now if you can’t catch the early drop, you can have a second chance to grab a ride on this attraction, but this time you will need to be in line during lunchtime.
That’s when most families are taking a break and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. is the ideal time for a shorter wait.

6. Get the Lightning Lane
Another option is purchasing a Lightning Lane for the ride. During my visit, it was $15 plus tax.
Something to note with Lightning Lane is that you will miss out on the awesome queue but if you are okay with that, then not to worry!
And the price of the Lightning Lane will vary depending on the day you go.
My Finals Thoughts on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Overall, this attraction is an excellent addition to Hollywood Studios but especially Toontown and Disneyland as a whole.
It fits in perfectly as a fun, zany family-friendly ride that has plenty of the Fab Five Characters that we love.
This attraction also inspires Guests to watch the new stylized versions of the Mickey Mouse Shorts on Disney+.
Hipster Power Tip: Once you leave the ride, you can explore the parts of Toontown that are open currently.
As of now, thats really the Gag Factory, Town Hall and the grassy area near Roger Rabbit. Perfect for photo-ops until the land opens next month!
