1. Encanto (2021)
If you have been living under a rock, let me briefly tell you about Encanto.
Storyline of Encanto
In a Colombian village resides a family known as The Family Madrigal, where each member possesses a unique magical ability that is utilized to support their community.
The family is guided by their Matriarch, Abuela, who established both the village and her family’s presence there. The only family member without a special gift is Mirabel Madrigal.

2. The Parent Trap (1961 & 1998)
Technically this is two films, but I’m counting them as one since it’s the same story and one is a remake that is equally as good as the original in my opinion.

Inspired by the German book Lisa and Lottie published in 1949, the story remains fundamentally unchanged, featuring only a few minor variations.
Storyline of The Parent Trap
The story goes that two girls encounter each other at summer camp and are astonished to find out, amid various playful antics, that they are actually twins.
The parents divorced while the children were still infants, with each parent choosing to raise one child independently, concealing the existence of the sibling from the other.
They devise a plan to swap identities, ensuring they encounter each other once more, but complications arise when their father becomes engaged to an unpleasant woman.

The humor in both movies is quite remarkable, and the performances by Brian Keith and Dennis Quaid, portraying the father role, along with Maureen O’Hara and the late Natasha Richardson, are truly unforgettable.
The narrative suggests that love can be reignited after many years. The film’s soundtrack effectively complements the story of rekindled romance.
I will say that Elaine Hendrix and Joanna Barnes, who plays the gold-digging fiancée, steals the show and does an amazing job of making you root for the twins’ plan to succeed.
Fun Fact: Joanna Barne, who plays Vicky in the 1961 version, returns to play Meredith’s mother to Elaine in the 1998 version.
4. Beauty and the Beast (1991)
This specific Disney animated film is considered greatly by many as one of the best films of the Disney Renaissance period and of all time.
Inspired by the 18th century fairytale, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of the most beautiful young woman in her French village, who is more engrossed in her books than in other pursuits.
Storyline of Beauty and the Beast
The town hunter and most eligible bachelor is a narcissistic and a misogynistic man who is set on marrying her simply for her beauty, but she is not interested.
Belle’s father wanders into dangerous woods and gets lost while heading to a fair and becomes ensnared in a beast’s castle.
Ultimately, his daughter discovers his location and voluntarily takes his place as a captive.
Belle learns that every item in the castle is alive and serves the beast who is cursed. This creature is on a quest to find genuine love and to be loved back; otherwise, they will remain trapped in their cursed forms indefinitely.

The film is truly a gorgeously animated film from its extremely talented and brilliant cast, stunning songs and score and phenomenal storytelling.

While we can easily debate on this remake’s success, one thing is certain. This 2021 romantic musical is based on the stage musical of the same name was highly anticipated.

If you are familiar with the Shakespeare tale, which I’m sure you are, you are well versed with how the tale tragically ends.
There are slight differences but nonetheless the musical weaves perfectly a tragic love story while touching on social issues with amazingly crafted music and dance sequences.

6. Lilo and Stitch
This film was such an underrated favorite. Allow me to step onto my soapbox briefly to state that they did the thing WAY before Frozen came onto the scene.
Lilo and Stitch unfortunately didn’t get a lot of love when it first came out but has grown a ton of appreciation over time.
Storyline of Lilo and Stitch
Lilo and Stitch follow a tale of a little girl named Lilo and her older sister Nani who live in Hawaii.

In a midwestern town in the early 1900s, the story centers around “Lady,” a cocker spaniel who is taken in by “Jim Dear” and “Darling,” chronicling her journey from puppyhood to adulthood.
