Is Universal Studios Hollywood Crowded in July?
Brace yourself for a busy time during the whole month of July!
Since most kids are out of school during this month, the park tends to get pretty crowded.
Plus, you’ll also be there during Independence Day, which is one of the biggest holidays in America.
The park is open much longer during July, but you still have to fight the crowds and the unforgiving California sun.

7 Tips to Conquer Universal Studios Hollywood 4th of July Crowds
I know this goes against all my Universal Studios Hollywood travel advice, but if you’re trying to conquer the park for the Fourth of July, then I have 7 tips to help you survive.
1. Map Out Day Before You Get to Universal Studios Hollywood
Get ready for an epic day of adventure! To make sure you don’t miss out on any must-do activities, it’s time to map out your path.
Take charge and plan your route around the park like a pro!
You can even download a map online or on your phone to make sure you don’t miss a beat. Let’s do this!
2. Start Your Day Early
It’s going to be hotter than normal with lots more people. So getting an early start is a must!
Also, don’t let the frustration of solo travel or group dynamics get to you. With your fearless attitude, you’ll be able to handle any challenge that comes your way!
It is also very common to see the California theme parks reach full capacity on Independence Day.
So, I recommend staying in the park all day, because even if you leave for a break there’s a chance you may not be able to get back in.
Hipster Power Tip: Double check with a Team Member to make sure you’ll be able to enter the park again.
3. Take Frequent Breaks on Indoor Attractions
This one tip will help you survive the Southern California heat while you’re enjoying all of the patriotic festivities at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Plus, I love the fact that the indoor attractions are a great way for you to chill and relax from the crowded streets of this park.
Universal Studios Hollywood Indoor Attractions:
- Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
- DreamWorks Theatre Featuring Kung Fu Panda
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
- Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge
- Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride
- The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash
- TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D
Hipster Power Tip: Don’t forget to cool off on the water rides at Universal Studios Hollywood Hollywood. They’re a quick way to easily feel refreshed.
4. Get an Express Pass Before Your Arrival
If there’s any day that requires an Express Pass, it’s the 4th of July at Universal Studios Hollywood.
With the Universal Studios Hollywood Express Pass, you’ll get to skip the long lines and hop right on the most popular rides!
You will want to have a plan by mixing the top rides in with attractions that have an indoor element.
Like I stated before, you will want ways to fight the Universal Studios Hollywood heat during the day.
5. Stay Hydrated
It’s important to stay hydrated on your trip to avoid heat related symptoms such as, a heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat rash by having proper hydration.
Below are my top tips for staying hydrated at Universal Studios Hollywood:
- Drink before you feel thirsty
- Keep a Water Bottle with you to refill throughout the day
- Monitor your water intake
- Avoid dehydrating beverages such as, alcohol, coffee, and soda
- Drink cool fluids
- Eat food high in water (fruits and vegetables)
Hipster Power Tip: Remember the most significant amount of dangerous UVB rays occur between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. So, keep sunscreen on hand!
6. Visit Universal Studios Hollywood on July 3rd
You may not be able to experience some of the same activities in the park that happen on Fourth of July but you can enjoy other events such as:
- Live Entertainment
- Fun Character Interactions
- Summer Treats
- Explore the NEW Super Nintendo World
- Cool off on Jurassic Park World: The Ride
Another reason why you should go to Universal Studios Hollywood on July 3rd is that you won’t have the large crowd that you would expect on Independence Day (there’s also no fireworks on the 3rd.)
That means you will be able to visit the park prior to the holiday rush of the crowd and you’ll still be able to do something for the patriotic event on the actual date of the holiday at your home.
7. Stake your fireworks viewing spot early
So, you’ve made it through the heat AND the crowd…
Now it’s time for you to get ready for a spectacular night to remember!
Choose your ultimate fireworks viewing spot in the park and hunker down for an unforgettable Independence Day extravaganza!
I recommend getting a spot at least an hour prior to the start of the show. Be sure to pick a location that will not have too much obstruction of the fireworks.
According to Universal, there will be two viewing locations. Please check in-park signage for best viewing locations.
